Avoid Injury, 3 Tips to Improve Your Avocado Cutting Techniques

When you love avocados, sometimes there is a rush to get the green fruit out of its pesky (but necessary) outer shell. This can lead to a slip of the knife as you extract the fruit or remove the pit. Food & Wine has found that the number of these injuries from avocados is steadily climbing! People are reporting more and more sliced thumbs and wounded palms. While we understand what all the rush is about, there is a better option!

Real Simple recently gave avocado lovers a demonstration on the best way to remove the delicious avocado fruit from its skin. There is more than one way to successfully and quickly remove the edible part of an avocado. What we are most worried about is maintaining safety by wielding your knife with precision and caution.

Tasty Tips for Cutting Avocados

1. Remove the pit (slice the avocado vertically to remove)

2. Slice the avocado inside the skin (Using the tip of your knife, gently slice into the avocado flesh being careful not to pierce through the skin)

3. Scoop out the avocado (using a spoon, gently scoop out the avocado flesh by holding the avocado in the palm of your hand)
